Valentine’s Day Traditions

Valentine’s Day Traditions

Growing up, my family didn’t really have any traditions for Valentines day. We would often get a little gift from our parents which was nice and sweet and of course we felt loved, but after having my daughter I wanted to make some new traditions with her. I wanted this to be more than a Hallmark holiday, but a day I get to express love and talk about why love in all it’s forms is beautiful.

The first thing I wanted to do was to make sure I took this opportunity to make sure she feels loved for exactly who she is no matter what. In the days leading up to Valentines, I decided to reinforce some positive affirmations about what makes her special and this will be our first new tradition each year. Each day in the month of February leading up to Valentines she will wake up to a new affirmation on her door. By the time Valentines hits, she will have 14 affirmations that she can feel special about.
Then on Valentine’s day I have decided to make her a special heart breakfast with a little gift where I can tell her how much I love her and why she is so special to me. Having meaningful conversation over a meal and taking the time to connect sounded like the perfect way to start the love day.

At the end of the day I have a special book that tells her story on how she came to be and how much she was loved even before she was here.

Do you have any Valentines traditions you do with your kids? I would love to hear more ideas!

Nothing brings me more joy than showing my daughter new things and places. Watching her explore and learn about it with all her senses. Being creative and doing projects is my outlet, and adventure travel feeds my soul. I’m a sucker for the corny quotes and the holidays. There isn’t a day that goes by that my mom brain doesn’t tip a little.
