Creating Sweet Memories: Gingerbread House Decorating Extravaganza

The holiday season is a time for cherished traditions, and for our family, crafting gingerbread houses with the kids and their cousins has become a delightful annual event. In this blog post, we’ll dive into the joy of selecting unique gingerbread house varieties, the teamwork involved, and the sweet chaos of decorating and demolishing these edible creations. So get your mommy juice ready… and let’s go!

VARIETY OF GINGERBREAD HOUSES

This year, we decided to spice things up by offering a variety of gingerbread house options for the kids to decorate. The choices included a tangy Sour Patch house, a delicious Oreo house, and a sweet Hershey’s Kiss-themed house. The anticipation and excitement were palpable as the kids eagerly picked their favorites, ready to transform these sugary canvases into festive masterpieces.

BUILDING

To kick off the gingerbread house decorating extravaganza, I took on the task of building the houses while the kids engaged in other activities. This strategic move ensured that the structures had time to set up and were stable for the upcoming decorating frenzy. Watching the anticipation build among the children added an extra layer of excitement to the holiday atmosphere.

Adding Candy Galore:
Let’s face it โ€“ the standard gingerbread house kits never come with enough candy. That’s why we seized the opportunity to clear out the lingering Halloween candy by supplementing the kits with an array of sweets. From gumdrops to chocolate bars, the more candy, the merrier!

Decorating and Capturing Memories:
Once the houses were sturdy and adorned with a rainbow of candies, the kids unleashed their creativity. We made sure to capture the festive chaos with plenty of photos, documenting the joyous expressions and proud moments of accomplishment.

THE SWEET DEMOLITION

As much as we appreciate the artistry of our gingerbread houses, the grand finale involves a sweet demolition. After snapping a few more pictures, we let the kids indulge in the ultimate treat โ€“ taking bites out of their edible creations. This not only adds a hilarious twist to the tradition but also prevents any mishaps with pets, as we learned the hard way in previous years.ย

Crafting gingerbread houses with the kids and their cousins has become a treasured holiday tradition in our family. From choosing unique house varieties to the collaborative decorating process and the sweet demolition that follows, this annual activity creates lasting memories that the kids eagerly look forward to each year. So, gather your candy, assemble your gingerbread team, and let the sugary festivities begin!
