Camping With Baby Must Haves

Camping With Baby Must Haves

I grew up camping, but mostly it was tent camping until I got my first trailer in my 30’s  I loved having this little trailer equiped with a comfy bed, a bathroom and a kitchen. It just elevated my camping game! When I had my baby girl I quickly started looking into what tools would I need to keep this camping fun going. Our first trailer trip was when she was 2 months.  It was a close to home easy trip to really feel things out a flying flags glamping resort.  Since then, we have gone on numerous beach camping trips, a 7 week roadtrip through 8 states, did an Oregon camping trip, a Yosemite camping trip and a lake camping trip.  All our camping trips have had different terrain and so we have had to bring different items for different activities, but there are a few common items we always have.  You need to be sure to have a safe place for them to sleep, a clean place for them to play so you can be handsfree while doing setup, a good place for them to eat and of course a good way they can get around depending on where you are camping.

I. Safe Place to Sleep

My baby and I didn’t ever co-sleep, so that wasn’t an option.  I also wanted to be able to put her down early without worrying she would roll off the bed.  So, I got a Kidco peapod pop up portable travel bed.  This worked out so well for us because I could just pop it up in the bottom bunk of my trailer with a sound machine and she had her safe little sleep area.  When not using it, it folds down compact and flat for easy lightweight storage.

2. A Place to Play

If you are a camper you know how hands on setup and bbqing and clean up can be.  As a single momma doing this on her own, I didn’t find it practical to do babywearing with such chores.  So I wanted a clean safe place for her to play while I did the camp stuff I needed to.  I looked at several popup playpens and it came down to 2 that I really liked.  I tested both and I liked them both.  In the end it came down to price for me.  I settled on the summer infant Pop N’ PLay with shade.  Let me tell you this thing was a Godsend!  I used this for more than camping but at bbq’s or get togethers or during the holidays.  It was a really portable option to create a safe play place for my girl.

3. Place to eat

Another item I used on more occasions than just camping was the Summer Pop n’ Sit foldup booster chair with tray. This sturdy little thing was great to use anytime we did snack or meals while on the go.

4. Getting around

Ok so there are several tools we used depending on what activities we would be doing on our camping trip.  If we were sightseeing, I would bring my carryon sized City Baby Jogger stroller or Tula baby carrier (this by far was the one item that went everywhere with me).  If we were doing any long walks or hiking, I would bring my osprey poco plus carrier pack and if we were going to the beach I brough my wagon with beach tires to handle the sand.  These were all regular tools I used to get baby from here to there.  SOme of these items should really have a blog of their own as they are amazing!!

These camping must-haves made for enjoyable trips where momma could do her chores, eat, and sleep with peace of mind that baby was taken care of.  Of course, you also need to make sure you have the proper clothes for the weather to keep baby warm or cool enough, a good amount of food, snacks and a ton of water. Plus, don’t forget the sunscreen!
